Tanzania Report 2023 - 2024 (Big Boat, Small Engine)

We went to Tanzania to meet with a customer who regularly purchases used boats and engines from us. Our customer is based in Zanzibar and the capital Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. Their company has a variety of businesses including shipbuilding, fishing, marine transportation, and car import. When visited the shipyard and the port, we saw many Japanese-made engines running on big boats with small engines (Big Boat, Small Engine). I think we need to work hard on exports to fit bigger engines on their dhow boat which is made of heavy wood. According to the internet, the land area of Tanzania is about 2.5 times that of Japan, and the total population is 62 million, about half of Japan's. The average age is 18 years old (as of 2022), and the population continues to grow by about 1.8 million people (about 3%) every year. Japan's population growth rate at the peak of the first baby boom during postwar reconstruction was 3% (1946, Japanese population 76 million). As a country, Tanzania is currently in its youth. Since the relationship we met in Tanzania, we invited the customer to Japan in the fall of 2023 to tour Kanto and Kyushu. We were able to introduce them to several of our business partners and deepen our friendships. It was a great opportunity to learn more about each other's home countries. We believe that we can build cooperative relations with a spirit of learning together and keep taking on challenges in Tanzania and Japan.

We received a video from a customer in Tanzania of the test run of a used marine engine that we sold. It's always a relief to test run a repaired boat or engine and see that it's running smoothly, but it's especially nice to receive a letter from Africa. Diesel engines are sturdy, but we hope that by maintaining them and not putting too much strain on them, they will be able to be used for a long time to come.

YAMAHA boat goes to Maldives

In Kamiamakusa City, where our company is located, there is "Yamaha Amakusa Manufacturing", which is the marine business and boat manufacturing base in Yamaha Motor Group. Their new boats are shipped out on trailers every day, and this morning the YFR-27HMEX, named "MALDIVES IMMIGRATION", was parked there. I checked on the Internet and found that the "gift of a customs surveillance boat" was made from Japan to the Maldives. I am very proud to see a leading Japanese brand continuing to manufacture high-quality boats under MADE IN AMAKUSA. Japanese products are at work in oceans all over the world.

A HAPPY NEW YEAR!! We have received a video from Papua New Guinea of a trial run of a boat with a used Yanmar engine. After the replacement, there was a problem with the fuel system, but they cleaned the fuel tank and fuel system, and the boat started running safely. Japanese-made engines are in use in oceans all over the world.

The hotel waiter's older brother seems to have married a Japanese woman, so it seems that there are Japanese women living on this faraway island.

Exporting ships overseas

This boat exported overseas has its propellers and rudders removed, then loaded onto trailers, boarded by cargo ships from ports, and sailed across the Pacific Ocean to the Caribbean. Japanese engines are running in the world's oceans, including Southeast Asia, India, and Africa. It is of excellent quality made in Japan.
